
Dr Sarah Hayes is a Senior Research Fellow in the People, Place, Heritage stream of the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, Deakin University. As an urban archaeologist and material culture researcher her primary interest is in historical waste. She focuses on the role consumption plays in quality of life and social mobility, and associated questions of waste production and waste behaviour. She is also interested in the potential of collections in communication about waste mitigation and awareness. Sarah is an Australian Research Council, Discovery Early Career Researcher Award recipient, co-editor of the Australasian Historical Archaeology journal, member of Heritage Victoria’s Archaeology Advisory Committee and a research associate at Museums Victoria.
